MISSION OF THE WEEK: HAITI’S SCHOOL CHILDREN! The Missionary: Francklin (shown with his wife Nerlie) was appointed as a missionary with Missions Door in 2006 to serve as the youth and children’s ministries coordinator. The Project: For many children in Haiti, the cost of education often hinders them from attending school and receiving an education. Your support to the Haiti Children’s School Scholarships project is an opportunity to provide a child with the gift of an education. All gifts given to this project go directly towards paying for school fees. The Numbers: Cost for 1 Child to attend school for 1 year: $ 355.00. Unto Warehouse Packing Day! Monday, June 20th. We’ll be headed again to the Unto Warehouse, 1506 Quarry Rd, Mt Joy, PA 17552 to pack a variety of items. Packing times are 8:30am-4pm. Houston Trip Love Offering While the team is preparing for their trip from January 13-20, we can begin supporting the team in prayer. Monetary support can be put in the Love Offering envelopes in the pews with “Houston” noted on the front. Checks can be made out to FBC with “Houston” noted in the memo.
Life Group Starting! Ted & Susan Hancock welcome you to their home for a Life Group Study beginning January 18th from 7-8:30pm. More info to come. If you are interested in joining please call or text them.

Special Business Meeting! A Special Business Meeting is scheduled on January 7th in the sanctuary at 9:15am, during the Sunday Bible School Hour. The topic to be discussed will be Phase 1 plans for FBC’s future enhancement.

Ministry Fair 2018 has been scheduled for Sunday, January 14th at 9:15am. We are so excited to share with our church body all the different areas one can be the hands and feet of Jesus! Each ministry is encouraged to setup a table to explain their ministry to info seekers. The theme this year is: Gifts Given, Gifts Shared. Heads of ministries, if you did not receive the Ministry Fair Info Sheet, please contact Ruth Ann Hawkins or pick one up in the church office.

Christmas Offering will be allocated towards future vision of our Building Fund. Christmas envelopes are located in the pew racks this month.

The Barnabas Basket – During the first weekend of every month, FBC collects food items for the Danville Food Bank. The collection basket will be in the Foyer today. The need for November is Noodles & Macaroni.

Lost & Found will be located in the BFLC (gym) today through next weekend. Please pick up your lost treasures ASAP! Any items leftover will be donated to the Salvation Army on November 12th.

FBC Representative Needed for the Danville Food Bank Thank you, Red Swank, for your many years of service on the board! Meetings are held at 9AM on the 4th Tuesday of every month. Food distributions are held the 2nd Saturday of each month. If you are interested, circle “F” on your connect card and we’ll get more information to you!

Midweek Meal: Wednesday, November 8: Dinner is served 4:45-5:45 PM. This week’s menu is Ham, Scalloped Potatoes, Corn & the desserts you bring. Haiti Team Meeting will be at 3:00pm in the Chapel on Sunday, November 5. You don’t want to miss this final meeting before the trip!

30 Hour Famine is Coming! Our Youth will be taking part of the 30 Hour Famine on November 17-18 to help raise awareness and funds. Would you stand with us in praying for and/or donating to help us fight hunger? Donations can be made online by going to our youth events page at www.danvillefirstbaptist.org or checks can be made out to World Vision and placed in the offering box on the wall by the office.

Teachers and Mentors Needed  Sunday Bible School is looking for teachers (primarily for our 2nd grade class), assistants, and substitutes to provide our children with a firm spiritual foundation.  If you are willing to make this one year commitment, or would like to know more about it, please contact the office or call Lisa Houser, Superintendent.

“Come & Help in The Kitchen!” With the crowds we’ve been getting, we are looking for more big hearts to help us out in the kitchen on Wednesday evenings. Here’s how you can help & the estimated time needed; Food Prep (3 hours), Setup (1 hour), Serving (1.5 hours) & Clean-up (1.5 hours). If you are interested, please call the office! 

Fishnet Partners! Fishnet Ministries processes large quantities of goods that will be sent to the mission field. This Thursday, they will be working on processing eye glasses in the BFLC from 9-12pm. All are welcome!

Church Administrator Position Opening With Fil retiring in January, FBC is beginning the search for our new Church Administrator! This is a
full-time salaried position. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Ardie Kissinger.

Pictures of Veterans Needed: Last Call! During our Veterans Day Sunday services, FBC would like to honor any veteran who has served. Please send in a picture of your veteran in military dress, if possible, to the church office by November 9th. Please also include their name and which branch of the military they served in.

Feed-A-Friend of Montour County – Collection basket is in the Main Foyer until November 9th!Top Suggestions: Canned items such as vegetables, tuna, cranberry sauce, fruit – Pasta, Mac & Cheese, Soup, Boxed Stuffing, etc. No refrigerated or frozen items, please.

FBC is Hosting the Jubilee Kitchen on November 18! Monetary donations and desserts would be greatly appreciated for this meal. Please contact Diane Gelbaugh if you are interested in making a dessert and/or if you would like to help out. CORRECTION: monetary donations can be made out to FBC with Jubilee Kitchen in the memo.

The Jubilee Kitchen is also looking for Drivers! Volunteers are needed to pick up donuts and bread goods each Saturday morning at 8:00am from Dunkin Donuts, Weis and Giant, and deliver them to the Jubilee Kitchen at Trinity Lutheran Church. Calling All Computer Techies! With the launch of the Saturday night service, we will need 2 or 3 computer savvy people to serve 1 Saturday a month to run our computers that project the lyrics, sermon slides, and videos.  We use a Mac computer and run a program called “ProPresenter.”  Most “techies” will be able to master the program within a few run throughs.  You will be provided a training session with
ProPresenter, and you will be given a “coach” to help you through the first couple weeks.  If you could give your time once a month to serve in this way on Saturday nights, email Pastor John at: pjohn@danvillefirstbaptist.organd say, “I am your techie!”   

Blood Drive OrganizerFBC is looking for someone to coordinate blood drives in the BFLC 4 times per year. If you would like more information, please circle “B” on your connect card or call the church office.

New Ministry: MOSAIC! Ministry and Outreach for Senior Adults In Christ is a new ministry for those 55 and older. We plan to meet periodically for fellowship, service and encouragement.  Our first outing will be on Monday, Oct. 16 at 6:00PM as we cruise the Susquehanna on the Hiawatha Riverboat departing from Williamsport. We will leave FBC at 5:00pm using church vehicles. Bring snacks and desserts to share as we gather at the pavilion at the dock after the one hour cruise. We’ll also discuss ideas for future events. The cost is $10 per person. Sign up on the bulletin board or in your SBS class. Contact Pastor Harry & Lynn if you have any questions.  

 
Feed a Friend: Thanksgiving will be here before you know it! Feed A Friend is designed to help provide a Thanksgiving meal to those that cannot afford one during the holiday season. Last year over 350 families were given a large box of food so they could have full stomachs for the holidays.

Ladies’ Open Door Bible Study: We’ll be studying The Armor of God by Priscilla Shirer. Each of the 7 weeks, you’ll learn how to dress for

“Thank You Temples”-Dessert Reception – Join us as we honor the Temples’ many years of service in keeping FBC looking great. Please bring a dessert to share on Sunday, February 5 in the BFLC at 6pm.

Midweek Meal Please join us for our Midweek Family Meal on Wed, February 1. Dinner is served 4:45-5:45 PM. This week’s menu is Chicken Devan with Broccoli & the desserts you bring. Please sign up by Mon, January 30 on the Ramp Bulletin Board, in your SBS class or by calling the office. Suggested donation for meals is $3/person or $10/family. If you know of a shut-in or elderly person and would be willing to deliver a meal to them, it is free of charge. Please put their name on the sign up sheet and indicate “Shut-In”. Desserts are on a donation basis, so feel free to share a dessert any time.

He Said Yes! We are excited to inform you that Pastor Paul Fink has accepted the call to be the next Associate Pastor here at FBC! We are looking for a few happy hosts to take in our new associate pastor and his family while they are in town looking for their new home. Dates are still to be confirmed, but can possibly be as soon as the weekend of February 4th. If you are interested, please call the office.

Offering Envelopes help ensure recording accuracies and makes it easier for the Financial Secretary to keep records of giving. If you
are giving regularly to First Baptist Church and would like Offering Envelopes please circle “E”on your Information Card. If you already have Offering Envelopes but need more, you may also circle “E”. If you have requested offering envelopes recently, you may pick them up at the ushers table in the back of the sanctuary. 

Wednesday evening Ladies Bible Study will begin a new study, this week. Ladies are invited to join them for I Peter – A Living Hope In Christ, by Jen Wilkin. They meet at 6 PM in Room 230 (3rd floor).

The Yaddah Pearls have started a new study Mondays at 9am in the library. They are studying Max Lucado’s “Cast of Characters/Common People in the hands of an Uncommon God.” Biblical people who were “messed up” like us; God comes alongside of them, passing out moral compasses to all comers and takers. Join us! (NO homework to be done.)

Attention Ladies: For those interested in getting more information about our retreat, we will have our first meeting Sunday, February 12 in the BFLC, immediately following the 10:30 service. Lunch will be provided. Registration will begin March 5. Mark your calendars for September 15-17 for our retreat at Linck Hill Inn!

Awana registration  is now available online at our website or stop by the table in the foyer this morning. Ages 3 through 6th grade are invited to join the fun Wednesdays at 6 PM starting September 14. There will be a Parent Night Orientation on Wednesday, September 7 in the chapel and games for the children in the BFLC.

New & Returning Awana workers ’ training meeting August 31, 6 PM in the chapel. Interested in helping? Please join us or call the office for questions..

Fall Call to Prayer : If you are not attending the Awana orientation, please join Pastor Dawes for a time of prayer for our church and our local and national needs. Wednesday, September 7 at 6 PM.

Stay tuned for the details! We are gearing up for Midweek Ministries, starting September 14 with a family meal at 4:45 PM. There will be  activities for all ages including Nursery, Jr. High Youth Group & a variety of Bible Studies.

The first football Chapel is at FBC this Friday, August 26 at 6:30 AM. Men are needed to make and serve breakfast to the football team & cheerleaders. Contact the office if you can help or with questions.

River Baptism  next Sunday, 3 PM at the east side of the Danville Riverside bridge. Finger foods appreciated. They may be brought to the kitchen in the morning or to the service that afternoon.

SUPER SUNDAY! We are inviting local students to the 10:30 AM service next week. That service will be designed to encourage them to discover the real meaning of SUCCESS as they begin a new school year. Invitations to share with the students you know are available at the Information Desk.

Submerged VBS music  CD’s are available  at the Information Desk in the foyer for yourself or to share. Please help yourself.

Prayer Rally  at the PA capitol in Harrisburg, September 15 at 12 noon. FBC will be taking vans. If you would like a ride or wish to caravan please sign the sheet at the Info Desk.

 Summer Change Project: Each Summer, the Mission Board hands out  Summer Change Cans to FBC families. The money collected is used by the FBC Haiti Teams to purchase glasses which the teams then distribute while there. Glasses for each trip usually cost about $1400 and include 900 pairs of UV sunglasses & 250 pairs of reading & distance glasses. Collection cans are available in the Foyer. 

SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR HAITI – During the month of August, the Haiti Team is collecting school supplies for the children of Haiti. We will take these supplies with us & distribute on our December/January trip. Please leave your donations of the following items in the barrel outside Springer Chapel. Supplies needed are: Wooden Pencils, Ball Point Pens, Boxes of Crayons, Spiral notebooks, large size with 70 pages, Notebooks of graph paper, Erasers* (not a slip-on pencil eraser), Small individual pencil sharpeners, Toothbrushes,  Small tubes of toothpaste.

Danville World Hunger Project/GAiN: Saturday, September 24, from 9-11 AM, FBC Beveridge Family Life Center, we will be packing 36,000 rice-lentil meals for refugees. We need 250 volunteers and $12,000 for this project. For more information about the refugee crisis, to sign up and/or donate, please go to https://www.danvillefirstbaptist.org/featured-events/.
